Henna and Andrew competed in the Wisconsin Amateur Field Trial Associations AKC Hunt Test today. The morning started off with water, despite bank running after getting her second bird (naughty!), Henna was invited back to run for the second half of the day. The afternoon on land brought two successful marks for Hen. Her first, the live flyer, landed right out in the open on a mowed part of the grass for an easy grab for her (after she took a digger running down the hill, but she got right back up and got her duck!). The second mark she struggled on a bit, way over ran it and started hunting up on a hill HOWEVER, she worked her way back, was able to successfully find her bird and delivered both to Andrew's hands! Congrats Andrew and Henna! Two legs down for her JH and two to go! Both kids went to watch with me today as daddy was busy. Kaiya was so happy to get to watch her doggie run, and was even more proud of the ribbon she got! We thought Hen was going to get disqualified after bank running, and Kaiya was so upset! Thankfully Hen pulled it out for her so Kai could get her ribbon! October 13th & 14th the High Fives flyball club ventured to Indianapolis, IN to compete in the NAFA championship tournament. The club didn't end up winning in either division they were in however our lab Nala earned her ONYX title and Henna debuted in the lane earning herself an FD title! Way to go girls!! This labor day weekend, my flyball club, High Fives Flyball, is hosting our annual flyball tournament in Jefferson, WI. Henna finally has earned herself a warmup spot on a team. I'm hoping she stays in her lane, brings her ball back and there are no incidents!! Hoping this can be a GOOD flyball debut!
Picture this, it's 2011, Henna and I have been training for hunt tests for about a year. Henna is performing great at practice; she marks teriffic, retrieves beatifully and has great DRIVE. We feel we are ready to go into a hunt test. Enter our first hunt test, Henna does water first, two perfect retrieves (after first having to say HI to the decoys). Then comes land, Henna watches the bird go down, marks it PERFECTLY (whereas others were struggling with it), goes out, grabs the bird, starts to bring it back and then it goes downhill fast!! Henna doesn't finish her retrieve but instead decides she wants to play keep away or catch me if you can and enjoy her find. FRUSTRATING. I showed her one more time and when she pulled the same thing again, my confidence in the field at shows with her was shot. So, I enlisted the help of Andrew with Happy Tails Dog Training to take Henna into the field during shows and get her a title on her. Well, Andrew showed her in 5 UKC shows and earned 4 qualifying scores, completing her SHR title this weekend! I'm so happy that I have a lab that is proven in the field and knows how to do what Labs should know how to do! Thank you Andrew!!! |
