Henna and Melissa ventured out to the first outdoor long dock event of 2016 on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon! Dock dogs hosted an event in conjunction with a Subaru loves dogs event held at an Oshkosh Subaru dealer. We entered the distance and speed retrieve events and did fairly well! Henna took 1st place in her wave, and overall in semi-finals with a jump of 22'8". In finals we came up short to Ripley and ended up in 2nd place. Speed retrieve was a different story however! This was our first time at this event, and they had no time for practice, so we were running blind! Speed retrieve is where the dog starts on the dock and has to run, jump and swim as fas as they can to a bumper hanging at the other of the 40' pool; get there as fast as you can!! Henna did ok on her first time out, she didn't really understand where she was going, but did get the bumper in about 9 seconds. Her second run she did much better but I messed up and let her go too early so we had a false start and our time didn't count, so we were stuck with our 9 second run as our time. We ended up in 2nd place in the lowest division but now that we know what we are doing we are ready for the next event! |
